On Multiple Devices

You are recommended to install Dingtone on all of your devices such as iPad, iPhone. You will be able to pickup phone call, receive message from any of the devices. That is one of the wonderful features that make Dingtone the best mobile communicator in its category.

However, a device may get lost. You may change phone number. Those bad situations were fully considered when we were designing Dingtone to protect your privacy and personal information.

1. Install Dingtone on the second device

When you install Dingtone on the second device, in the "Activation" step, you will see a warning message:

If you choose "Deactivate Other Device(s)", Dingtone account(s) on the previous device(s) will be deactivated. If you lost your device which installed Dingtone, you do need to choose this action to stop Dingtone working on the lost device.

At the same time, you will see the following warning message in the first device that has Dingtone:

There are two scenarios that you can see this warning message even you actually didn't install Dingtone on a new device:

(1) Someone temporarily accessed your phone (even for a short time). Your phone was used to receive the activation code to activate Dingtone on a new device. Since Dingtone accounts on your own device and the new device share the same phone number, they are considered as one Dingtone account. As a result, both devices can see each other's messages, phone calls, and friend list. You absolutely need to choose "I didn't install" option when you see this warning message. Then you can deactivate Dingtone on the device which used your phone number to activate Dingtone.

(2) You changed your phone number recently. But you are still using the old phone number for Dingtone account. The carrier allocated your old phone number to a new person who used it to activate Dingtone in a new device. When you see this warning message, you should choose "I didn't install", then choose to deactivate your Dingtone account. You should re-install Dingtone on your device with your new phone number.

If you choose "I didn't install", a confirmation message will popup:

If you choose "Deactivate", the Dingtone account on this device will be deactivated. Then you need to reinstall Dingtone on this device. When you are reinstalling Dingtone, you will see [warning message 1] again, where you can deactivate Dingtone on other devices (That means the Dingtone account somebody activated with your phone number will be deactivated).

2. You changed your phone number recently.

You are strongly recommended to deactivate Dingtone on your device(s), and then reinstall Dingtone on your device(s) with your new phone number. The carrier usually reallocates your old phone to a new person who may use the phone number to activate Dingtone (which is obviously reasonable behavior).

3. Your device was lost

When you device is lost, the people who picked up your phone gains control to your phone, certainly including Dingtone on that phone. If you have service like iCould to remote wipe your phone, you don't need do anything special. Otherwise, you are suggested to take the following steps to stop Dingtone working in the lost device:

1) Install Dingtone into a new phone (assuming your new phone keeps the same phone number)

2) Activate Dingtone with the same phone number

3) When Dingtone is activated on your new phone, you will see a warning message:

Choose [Deactivate Other Devices] will stop Dingtone working on your lost device.

4. Your phone was borrowed or accessed by other person

If Your phone was borrowed or accessed by other person, and this person used your phone to activate Dingtone When that person activates Dingtone with your phone number, you will see a warning message when you use Dingtone on your device:

You choose "I didn't install". Then you will be asked to deactivate Dingtone and reinstall Dingtone on your device. During the process of reinstalling Dingtone, you can remotely deactivate Dingtone on devices not owned by you.
